Staging & local development

Base + paths

Use --base with a relative-paths file to capture a local dev server:

terminal
shotsweep capture --base http://localhost:3000 --paths paths.json

paths.json is a JSON array or newline-delimited list of relative paths — each one gets prefixed with --base to build the final URL.

Reusing a production sitemap

Rather than maintaining a separate paths file per environment, reuse your production sitemap and rewrite its origin:

terminal
shotsweep capture \ --sitemap https://example.com/sitemap.xml \ --replace-origin https://staging.example.com

Every resolved URL keeps its path, but its protocol and host are swapped to --replace-origin. One sitemap now works across production, staging, and localhost.

Combine with a config file

If a given project always targets the same base URL, put it in a config file so capture runs with zero flags during local development.
