Debugging
Add --debug to any capture run for detailed diagnostic output:
terminal
shotsweep capture --url https://example.com --debug[debug] Resolved targets: [ 'https://example.com' ]
[debug] Resolved 1 target(s).
[debug] Section capture: totalHeight=14459, viewportHeight=900, sectionCount=17
[debug] Wrote section screenshot: screenshots/example.com/home/section-01-1440x900.png
[debug] Section capture complete, returning 17 file(s)Debug output tells you:
- which URLs were resolved, and from which input source
- how many capture jobs (URL × viewport) were created
- page dimensions and section counts, when using
--mode sections - each screenshot’s file path as it’s written
- capture failures, with the underlying browser error
Reading a capture failure
A failed page load shows the real Playwright/browser error, which is usually the fastest way to diagnose what went wrong:
[debug] Capture failed: https://this-domain-does-not-exist-123456.com (1440x900)
page.goto: net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVEDThat entry still lands in manifest.json, with an error field instead of a file field — see
Error Handling for the full list of failure modes.
